TRUE NORTH // PURE MICHIGAN
My boyfriend and I don't get to go on many vacations (we talk about going on them all of the time), but when we do we love to go the outdoorsy, mountainy route. My boyfriend and I truly love being outside and all of the activities that come with it. So, we were torn when trying to decide between Colorado and anywhere else. haha We LOVE and LIVE for Colorado, and choosing to go somewhere else was tough, but we are so happy that we did.
Our trip to Traverse City, MI was an incredible adventure. We started out our trip by Home Aloning it. We slept through our alarms and ended up having to run through the airport to the gate. Good thing I picked out my outfit the night before! haha And thank goodness we live in Kansas City where the airport is small. We landed in Michigan and hit the ground running.
The plan was to hike, bike and kayak our butts off. We weren't able to bike or kayak because it was unexpectedly cold and windy. We did a TON of driving and hiking though. We drove up, down and around Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan could be mistaken for an ocean, by the way. It is huge! Everywhere we looked was another amazing view.
Below are a few of my favorite spots we visited while in Michigan.
Petoskey, MI.: We actually stopped here twice on our trip. This lakefront town is very welcoming, and the views of the lake are incredible. The downtown area is super cute and definitely one of those towns that you know is absolutely adorable during the holidays. I'm hoping that the next time we visit Michigan we can stay in Petoskey.
Boyne, MI.: We headed even further north to take in the fall foliage via the chairlifts at Boyne Mountain Resort (we are mountain lovers). Their Fall Color Tour was so breathtaking and we couldn't get enough. My pictures don't do it justice, unfortunately. The resort is so pictureesque and looks like something out of a fairytale.
Sleeping Bear Dunes: What. A. View. Sleeping Bear Dunes was the hole reason for our trip to Michigan. It did not disappoint. The dunes are gorgeous, the lake is gorgeous and the feeling that overwhelms you is similar to what Ryan and I experince when we are in the Rockies. It is like you become one with nature, which may sound corny, but it is the truth. If you ever get a chance to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes please take it. You will not be sorry.
Travese City, MI: Of course, Traverse City was fun. We stayed at a hotel that was right on the lake and just a short walk from downtown. The downtown area is full of restaurants and bars. We hit up a few micro breweries while we were there, and managed to watch a post season Royals game and a Patriots game.
I can't wait to go back! We will probably try a summer trip next time. As always, thank you so very much for stopping by!
Sincerely,
W
